Forme Procycliste SanLamere Cycling Team

Team press release issued Friday 18th March 2011.

‘Forme Procycliste SaLamere’ is a new British based cycling team which was presented recently at Forme Bikes HQ in Derby following a lengthy training camp in Calpe, Spain.

A young team of British and Irish riders with an average age of only 23 has been put together for the team’s debut season. An academy style set-up has been created and will see the riders based together in a team house on the edge of the Peak District in Derbyshire. The development of riders was an important factor in the creation of ‘Forme Procycliste SanLamere’, with the format of the team following that more often seen at an U.23 elite amateur / continental level in central Europe. During 2011 ‘Forme Procycliste SanLamere’ will proudly be riding Forme Bikes ‘Zenith’ model whilst taking on a tough racing schedule consisting of various UCI stage and one day races in Europe as well as the Premier Calendar series in Great Britain. The team will also be racing elite races in France and Belgium in-between their major objectives.

Launched in 2010, Forme Bikes are a young British bike brand that in 2011 will be making a significant dent into the UK bike market. “The values and ethos of the team perfectly match those of Forme Bikes and so a becoming a team partner was the natural choice. Over the coming seasons the development of the brand and the team will be intrinsically linked” said Adam Biggs, Brand Manager of Forme Bikes. The riders of Forme Procycliste SanLamere will not only be used to help develop the bikes supplied by Forme, but will also be a key factor in the development of Tess Wheels ‘Skyline’ model of carbon race wheels, with Tess Wheels being the teams official wheel partner.

Further team partners for 2011 are cycle based training and athlete support experts Procycliste.co.uk as well as SanLamere.co.uk, an innovative and unique UK based importer, distributor and wholesaler specialising in the sourcing and supply of energy and water efficient products designed for both domestic and light-commercial based applications. Although UK based, SanLamere also have interests and links outside of Europe therefore presenting opportunities for the team to race in nations such as Australia and New Zealand.

Further details on the team will be available shortly at www.formecyclingteam.com including information on all team partners for 2011 though in the interim please see www.futurestarscyclingproject.blogspot.com. The team would like to thank all of their partners for the 2011 season.

From Calpe to Croatia

Six weeks in Calpe was brilliant preparation for Forme Procycliste SanLamere’s debut season, though with a very testing calendar lined up the two weeks that followed was an important period for everyone involved in the team in order to ensure that everything was set up for a good year.

Shortly after the team returned to the UK the riders received their race bikes (Forme Zenith) and clothing for the season (race clothing provided by Impsport, Limar and Lake, casual clothing provided by SueMe), with a team presentation taking place at Forme Bikes HQ in Derby later that week. The following day the team raced together for the first time, taking 1st and 2nd at the Darley Moor (National B) in Derby before travelling south for the Severn Bridge Road Race (National B) on the Sunday. Despite very much being in the thick of the early action, a move established itself at precisely the wrong moment for the team as they gathered together to help Adam Rayner rejoin the race following a small crash. Without a rider representing the team in the break the riders forced a counter attack late on though it was to prove unsuccessful.

Three days after the Severn Bridge Road Race the team flew to Croatia for a period of UCI races based in the region of Istria. Represented by Robert Orr, Will Fox, Dexter Gardias, Jack Adams, Adam Rayner and Stephen Gallagher, with Tom Kirk (D.S) and John Southern (Mechanic) in support the team raced the UCI 1.2 Porec Trophy on 13th March. Known as a race that often sees a large group contest the finish, this years’ edition saw very strong winds and rain rip the race to pieces early on. A break of 15 riders established itself at the head of the race after 30km with Jack Adams in attendance for Forme Procycliste SanLamere. This move was caught later in the race by another group before splitting again, with 25 riders going to contest the finish and the remaining riders including Jack Adams being pulled back by the peloton. After 147km of conditions similar to those often seen in the early season classics in Belgium and France Jack Adams finished 49th for Forme Procycliste SanLamere, with Stephen Gallagher nursing a punctured tub to the finish in 51st place. Of the 180 riders that started the race, 93 riders abandoned in difficult conditions.

With the teams next race being the UCI 2.2 Istrian Spring Trophy (four day stage race from 17th to 20th March) the team did a recon’ of the stage 2 finishing climb to Montuvun (shown below). The 157km stage finishes with a 3km climb at an average gradient of 8%, with the final 300m being raced on at a gradient of more than 10% and on pavĂ© similar to that seen at Paris Roubaix! With former Tour de France yellow jersey and controversial character Michael Rasmussen due to be in attendance as well as numerous major European teams Forme Procycliste SanLamere will be in good company!

FORME-PROCYCLISTE-SANLAMERE

Much has already been done, lots of hard work still remains, though the team created by the Future Stars Cycling Project is now in Calpe (Spain) training in preparation for the new season. In 2011 the team will be known as 'Forme Procycliste SanLamere' and will be a young team developing throughout the year whilst racing at an elite level in Europe.

The principal team partners are Forme Bikes, Procycliste and SanLamere, with further support coming from Advent Business Sales, Tess Wheels, High5, SueMe and OuterEdge Teamwear.

With an average age of only twenty-two the team will be ‘punching above its weight’ in many races whilst competing against seasoned professionals and Olympians, plus National, Commonwealth and World Champions.

Upon their return from Calpe the team will receive their team kit and equipment whilst being professionally fitted for their Forme ‘Zenith Team’ race bikes and Lake CX401 cycling shoes. An official team launch will follow in late February before the team start racing at the British ‘Severn Bridge’ road race. The following weekend will see the team in action at one of British Cycling’s early classic races the Jock Wadley Memorial before then travelling to France for three ‘elite-national’ races (Prix Gilbert Bousquet, Boucles Guegonnaise and Grand Prix U). After their races in France the team will be focusing on the first British ‘National A’ category race of the season the ‘Dengie Marshes Tour’, won in 2010 by Adam Biggs of Forme Procycliste SanLamere.

As we look forward to the start of the season we would like to thank all of our team partners for their support. For further information on the team please email futurestarscyclingproject@yahoo.com

COOL IT'S CHRISTMAS, HIGH5!

Christmas is here and it looks like being a "white Christmas" in the UK, although does it actually have to snow on the day for it to be classed as a "white Christmas" rather than there simply being snow on the ground from days gone by? Whatever the answer is we would like to wish you a Happy Christmas and all the best for 2011.

For the Future Stars Cycling Project these last few weeks it has been a case of "dotting the i's and crossing the t's" in preparation for 2011, a year which we hope will be as good for you as it looks like being for us. After lots of hard work over recent months we are pleased to be able to announce the first of the team's partners for 2011; High5 Sports Nutrition.

High5 are one of the leading brands world wide for Sports Nutrition with their products known and used over a very large landscape. The world really is a huge place, yet coincidentally High5 are based only a stones throw away from where the team will have a rider 'academy house' for 2011, and so the partnership really is a perfect fit for both parties. We honestly do not believe there to be a better sports nutrition company out there and so are very grateful to High5 for their support.

High5 have proved that you can race faster by using their products, and we certainly hope that the team's riders will race even faster than before in 2011. You can too though, so treat yourself this Christmas!

Further details on High5 can be found by visiting their website http://www.highfive.co.uk/

FOUR WEEK COUNTDOWN

Four weeks today the team will have arrived in Calpe, Spain to prepare for the 2011 season, though with the UK weather having improved over the last week it's been a case of normal service resumed for the riders, with road rides replacing regular turbo sessions and roller work previously necessary due to the ice and snow. It will be during the six weeks that the team is in Spain that the team website will be launched. The website will contain daily updates on everyday 'team life', as well as general news and competitions held in conjunction with our team partners. Details will also be posted on our Twitter feed, so be sure to check in regularly!

Shortly we will be able to announce our team partners for 2011 and beyond. In the meantime general queries or queries regarding partnership opportunities should be directed to futurestarscyclingproject@yahoo.com
